🔹 Century-Old Monoculture Paradigm Shattered
For over 100 years, the commercial mushroom industry operated under the foundational assumption that bacterial blotch was provoked by a single isolated bacterial pathogen. Groundbreaking genomic research published in Microbiological Research by the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) definitively refutes this dogma. Using comprehensive DNA sequencing and chemical profiling on infected mushrooms collected across the southern United States, investigators discovered that the disease is orchestrated by a complex consortium of more than 17 distinct pathogenic bacterial species coexisting and acting in concert.
