Researchers have successfully identified a missing leaf, specifically page 123, of the Archimedes Palimpsest at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Blois, France. This 10th-century Greek manuscript, which contains essential mathematical treatises by Archimedes of Syracuse, was historically erased and reused as parchment for other texts. The discovery, confirmed by Victor Gysembergh of CNRS and published on March 6, 2026, provides a critical opportunity to recover lost ancient mathematical knowledge. The author highlights the significance of this find in the context of historical preservation and modern scientific advancement. By utilizing advanced imaging techniques, researchers aim to bypass 20th-century additions—such as an illumination of the Prophet Daniel—that currently obscure the original ancient text.
